La Fábrica de los Arcoíris - The Rainbow Factory

Siempre me han fascinado las máquinas antiguas, los juguetes mecánicos y sobre todo los autómatas. Si se me hubiesen dado mejor las matemáticas, probablemente habría estudiado ingeniería mecánica en lugar de Bellas Artes...

I've always been fascinated by old machines, mechanical toys and especially automata. If I had been better at mathematics, I would probably have studied Mechanical Engineering instead of Fine Arts...

Llevaba tiempo queriendo probar a crear un autómata sencillo y después de investigar un poco en la red y de rebuscar en las cajas de mi scraproom, cree mi primer cuadro interactivo, inspirado por el reto de agosto de Up&Scrap, "La Fábrica de los Arcoíris".

I had been wanting to make a simple automaton for a while now, and after investigating a bit on the web and rummaging through my scraproom, I created my first interactive piece of homedecor, inspired by the August challenge at Up&Scrap. I call it "The Rainbow Factory".

Como podéis ver es un mecanismo muy sencillo compuesto por un eje central con seis discos de madera y otros seis pistones, que a su vez sujetan a seis duendes de papel. Vamos a verlo en movimiento...

As you can see the mechanism is very simple. It's made up by a central shaft with six wooden discs and six pistons that are attached to six paper gnomes. Let's see it in action...

Al girar la manivela, los pistones se mueven hacia arriba y abajo produciendo un bonito tintineo. Esos felices duendes no paran de trabajar y crear arcoíris.

When the crank is rotated, the pistons move up and down producing a nice tinkling. Those happy gnomes won't stop working and making rainbows.

He usado un set de sellos muy gracioso de My Favorite Things llamado "You gnome me" para este proyecto. Los estampé sobre cartulina de alto gramaje de la marca Neenah y los coloree con rotuladores Copic. Después los recorté a mano y los adherí a los palitos de madera con pegamento líquido.

I used a fun stamp set by My Favorite Things called "You gnome me" for this project. I stamped them on heavyweight Neenah cardstock and colored them with Copic markers. Then I fussy cut them and adhered them to the wooden sticks with liquid glue.

Corté el arcoíris con un troquel de Paper Smooches y las nubes con un set de Die-namics llamado "In the clouds".

I cut the rainbow with a Paper Smooches die and the clouds with a Die-namics set called "In the clouds".

Para darle una gracia al mecanismo, pinté los cantos de los discos con pintura gouache. Compré los discos y los rectángulos de madera en una tienda de Etsy hace unos años, pero parece que ha cerrado.

To give the mechanism a fun touch, I painted the edge of the discs with gouache paint. I bought both the discs and rectangles from an Etsy store a couple of years ago, but I can't find it anymore.

La manivela, formada por otros dos discos, es muy sencilla y el eje es en realidad una aguja de calcetar de 5mm de grosor. Jajaja, ¡aquí se aprovecha todo!

The crank, made with two discs, is very simple and the shaft is actually a 5mm knitting needle. Hahaha, nothing is wasted here!

Una tarjeta "slider" divertida - A fun slider card

Me apetecía mucho participar en el reto de septiembre de A Tendiña do Scrap que consiste en hacer una tarjeta interactiva incluyendo rayas y lunares. Mi idea era combinarlo con el reto Card Design Superstar de MFT Stamps, pero se me pasó el plazo, que fue ayer.
I really felt like participating in the September challenge at A Tendiña do Scrap, which consists in making an interactive card with stripes and dots. My idea was to combine it with the Card Design Superstar Challenge at MFT Stamps, but I forgot about the deadline, which was yesterday.

Como podéis observar he creado una tarjeta "slider" (deslizante) bastante sencilla pero divertida:
As you can see, I've created a quite simple but fun slider card:

Al tirar del panel, se mueve el mensaje revelando una segunda imagen del mismo duende convertido en Papa Noel... jajaja!

When you pull the panel, the message moves, revealing a second image of the same gnome dressed as Santa Claus... LOL!

To make this card I followed THIS tutorial by Jen Evers on Youtube, changing the measurements to fit my needs and materials...

Empecé estampando el duende con la pala del set "You gnome me" de MFT Stamps con tinta Memento Black Tuxedo sobre papel para rotuladores Copic. Cuando vi este adorable set por primera vez, sabía que el duende funcionaría perfectamente como Papa Noel.
I started by stamping the gnome with the showel from the "You gnome me" set from MFT Stamps with Black Tuxedo Memento ink on Copic-friendly paper. When I saw this adorable set for the first time, I knew that the gnome would work perfectly as Santa.

Después limpié bien el sello antes de cubrir las partes que no me interesaban (la gorra, las orejas y la pala) con cinta de carrocero.

Then I cleaned the stamp well before covering the parts that I wasn't interested in (cone hat, ears and showel) with painter's tape.

Entinté el sello, retiré las piezas de cinta con cuidado y estampé el sello de nuevo. Aquí tenéis el resultado de las dos estampaciones:

I inked the stamp, ripped off the tape and stamped it again. Here's the result of both times:

Dibujé la gorra de navidad y el saco con un lápiz (porque no estaba muy segura de si la tinta de un Pilot o un bolígrafo negro se corría al contacto con los Copic) antes de colorear el sello y después dibujé el contorno con un Rotring de 0,2.

I drew the Christmas hat and sack with a pencil (because I wasn't sure if the ink of a Pilot or black pen would bleed in contact with the Copics) before colouring the stamp and then drew the outline with a 0,2 Rotring.

Elegí un papel de rayas verdes de Lawn Fawn como fondo para el duende y otro de lunares para el Papa Noel.
I chose a green striped paper by Lawn Fawn for the gnome's background and another dotted paper for the Santa.

Para crear el texto (lo puse en inglés porque resultaba bastante más corto que "Felicidades por tu nuevo trabajo") usé cuatro sets de abecedarios de Die-namics y cartulinas de colores.
To create the sentiment (I wrote it in English because it was a lot shorter than "Felicidades por tu nuevo trabajo") I used four different alphabet Die-namics sets and coloured cardstock.

Me parece un reto muy divertido y espero que os animéis a participar... Estoy deseando darle la tarjeta a mi marido, a ver si hay suerte ;) ¡Buen fin de semana!
