Tarjeta cumpleañera interactiva - An interactive Birthday card

Este año el dicho "en abril, aguas mil" no se está cumpliendo aquí en Galicia, ya que está siendo el abril más seco de la historia. Aún así me inspiré en el reto de Paper Smooches, "April Showers", para crearle esta divertida tarjeta cumpleañera a una querida amiga scrapera.

This year the month of April has been very dry here in Galicia, but nevertheless, I was inspired by the "April Showers" Paper Smooches challenge to create this fun, interactive Birthday card for a dear crafty friend.

Con algo de estampación parcial, convertí el científico loco del set de sellos "Great Chemistry" en un entusiasmado pintor en pleno proceso creativo.

Thanks to some partial stamping, I transformed the crazy professor from the stamp set "Great Chemistry" into a flustered, brush-wielding painter.

Ji ji ji, ¿qué os ha parecido? A pesar de que no fui capaz de alinear perfectamente el pincel con el arcoíris (no quise acortar el brazo más), me gusta mucho el efecto.... casi "da el pego" ;)

Ha ha ha, what do you think? Even though I wasn't able to perfectly align the brush with the rainbow (I didn't want to make the rotating arm any shorter), I like the effect...

El mecanismo es realmente sencillo... Utilicé el troquel "Rainbow", también de Paper Smooches, para troquelar una ventana en el panel y para cortar las tiras que forman el arcoíris. Tanto el brazo como el disco están sujetos con un encuadernador (brad) al panel. El brazo está adherido al disco dentado con almohadillas adhesivas de tal manera que al girarlo, los dos elementos se mueven a la par.
The mechanism is really simple. I used the "Rainbow" die, also by Paper Smooches, for cutting a window out of the card panel, and for the rainbow itself. Both the arm and the disc are attached to the card panel with a small brad. The arm is also glued to the pinked disc with foam adhesive so that they can rotate together.

El divertido personaje, coloreado con rotuladores Copic, está pegado con almohadillas adhesivas aunque no lleva ninguna detrás de la cabeza para que el brazo pueda girar libremente.
The fun character, colored with Copic markers, is glued to the card panel with foam adhesive. I didn't put any behind his head so that the arm can rotate freely.

La Fábrica de los Arcoíris - The Rainbow Factory

Siempre me han fascinado las máquinas antiguas, los juguetes mecánicos y sobre todo los autómatas. Si se me hubiesen dado mejor las matemáticas, probablemente habría estudiado ingeniería mecánica en lugar de Bellas Artes...

I've always been fascinated by old machines, mechanical toys and especially automata. If I had been better at mathematics, I would probably have studied Mechanical Engineering instead of Fine Arts...

Llevaba tiempo queriendo probar a crear un autómata sencillo y después de investigar un poco en la red y de rebuscar en las cajas de mi scraproom, cree mi primer cuadro interactivo, inspirado por el reto de agosto de Up&Scrap, "La Fábrica de los Arcoíris".

I had been wanting to make a simple automaton for a while now, and after investigating a bit on the web and rummaging through my scraproom, I created my first interactive piece of homedecor, inspired by the August challenge at Up&Scrap. I call it "The Rainbow Factory".

Como podéis ver es un mecanismo muy sencillo compuesto por un eje central con seis discos de madera y otros seis pistones, que a su vez sujetan a seis duendes de papel. Vamos a verlo en movimiento...

As you can see the mechanism is very simple. It's made up by a central shaft with six wooden discs and six pistons that are attached to six paper gnomes. Let's see it in action...

Al girar la manivela, los pistones se mueven hacia arriba y abajo produciendo un bonito tintineo. Esos felices duendes no paran de trabajar y crear arcoíris.

When the crank is rotated, the pistons move up and down producing a nice tinkling. Those happy gnomes won't stop working and making rainbows.

He usado un set de sellos muy gracioso de My Favorite Things llamado "You gnome me" para este proyecto. Los estampé sobre cartulina de alto gramaje de la marca Neenah y los coloree con rotuladores Copic. Después los recorté a mano y los adherí a los palitos de madera con pegamento líquido.

I used a fun stamp set by My Favorite Things called "You gnome me" for this project. I stamped them on heavyweight Neenah cardstock and colored them with Copic markers. Then I fussy cut them and adhered them to the wooden sticks with liquid glue.

Corté el arcoíris con un troquel de Paper Smooches y las nubes con un set de Die-namics llamado "In the clouds".

I cut the rainbow with a Paper Smooches die and the clouds with a Die-namics set called "In the clouds".

Para darle una gracia al mecanismo, pinté los cantos de los discos con pintura gouache. Compré los discos y los rectángulos de madera en una tienda de Etsy hace unos años, pero parece que ha cerrado.

To give the mechanism a fun touch, I painted the edge of the discs with gouache paint. I bought both the discs and rectangles from an Etsy store a couple of years ago, but I can't find it anymore.

La manivela, formada por otros dos discos, es muy sencilla y el eje es en realidad una aguja de calcetar de 5mm de grosor. Jajaja, ¡aquí se aprovecha todo!

The crank, made with two discs, is very simple and the shaft is actually a 5mm knitting needle. Hahaha, nothing is wasted here!

Una mezcla de acuarela, sellos, die-cuts y dibujo - A mixture of watercolour, stamps, die-cuts and drawing

De pequeña me pasaba horas dibujando... no había nada más lujoso que la pila de folios, destinada a la basura, que mis padres traían de la oficina de vez en cuando. No importaba si estaban usados por una cara, la otra era para mí... 

As a child, I would spend hours on end just drawing... there was nothing more luxurious than the pile of copy paper, destined for the recycling bin, that my parents would bring from the office, every now and then. I didn't care that one side was already used, the other one was for me...

Tenía claro que de mayor iba a ser actriz o artista...  y aunque años más tarde pasé los castings para "Teaterhögskolan" (la escuela de teatro sueca de Helsinki), acabé estudiando Bellas Artes en... ¡Pontevedra!  Ay, que vueltas da la vida...

 I wanted to become either an actress or an artist when I grew up, and even though I passed the entry exams for "Teaterhögskolan" (the Swedish Drama Scool in Helsinki), I ended up studying Fine Arts in... Pontevedra (2.400 miles away from home)! I guess you never know where life will take you...

Os suelto este rollo para deciros que he retomado el dibujo, que había dejado a un lado cuando nacieron mis peques. Poco a poco me voy sintiendo más cómoda y aunque me falta mucho para tener la destreza de antes, ya me atrevo a incluir garabatos en algunos proyectos... como el que os muestro hoy en el blog de La Pareja Creativa:

Little by little I'm feeling more comfortable and even though I'm far from being as skilful as before, I've started including doodling in some of my projects... like the one that I'm showing on LPC's blog today:

Mi primera tarjeta para el reto solidario de 3flowers

Hoy vuelvo con una breve entrada para mostraros la primera tarjeta que he hecho para el reto solidario de 3flowers...

Os resumo de qué va la cosa, aunque lo mejor es que visitéis el blog de 3flowers retos de tarjetas para tener todos los detalles y para inspiraros por las preciosas tarjetas que ha creado el DT:

Hay un grupo de chicas que se dedican a hacer almohadas en forma de corazón para regalárselas a las mujeres que han pasado recientemente por una mastectomía con el fin de aliviarles el postoperatorio. Ellas recaudan tarjetas para que los corazones no lleguen solos y además en estas tarjetas van las instrucciones de uso por lo que tienen que ser de 14x14 cm y llevar el mensaje de apoyo por fuera.

Aquí está la mía:

Aunque la idea para la tarjeta la tengo desde que mi amiga Pilar Torres me habló de esta iniciativa hace unas semanas, no tenía claro el mensaje hasta hace poco... Espero que la ciencia avance y que esta maldita enfermedad tenga sus días contados!

Con esta tarjeta también participo en el reto de julio de Mama Elephant cuyo tema es el arcoiris...

Nieve en abril - Snow in April

En Galicia usamos mucho la expresión: "Ata o corenta de maio non te quites o saio." (Hasta el cuarenta de mayo no te quites el sayo) porque el tiempo en el mes de abril suele ser una locura... Hace un par de días el termómetro subió repentinamente hasta los casi treinta grados y ahora hace frío otra vez.

In Galicia (northwestern part of Spain) we have a saying that goes: "Don't take off your tunic until the 40th of May." because the weather in April is usually totally crazy... A few days ago the thermometer suddenly reached 86 degrees and now it's cold once again.

Las chicas de Yoy Scrap han propuesto para su reto de abril crear una tarjeta con los siguientes requisitos: papel kraft + nieve. Podéis ver sus preciosas propuestas y más detalles sobre el reto AQUÍ aunque me temo que el plazo de entrega es hoy.

For their April challenge, the girls at Yoy Scrap asked us to make a card with the following requirements: kraft paper + snow. You can see their beautiful creations HERE, but I'm afraid that the last day to link up is today.

La verdad es que ya estaba con el chip de la primavera y me ha costado un poco inspirarme, pero al final me ha salido esto, una tarjeta primaveral con nieve y un toque de humor:

To tell you the truth I was already in spring mode and it took me a while to get some inspiration, but I finally made this spring-like card with snow and a touch of humor: 

El arco iris es un troquel de Paper Smooches. Tuve que entintar un par de tiras porque no me quedaba cartulina texturizada turquesa ni violeta. Llegué a la conclusión que teniendo tintas de los colores del arco iris, se acaba antes cortando el troquel en cartulina blanca y entintando los arcos, que pasando el troquel por la Big shot seis veces. Además así no se desperdicia papel.

The rainbow is a die by Paper Smooches (I had to ink a couple of the strips because I didn't have any textured paper in turquoise or violet. I came to the conclusion that if you have inks in the colors of the rainbow, it's a lot faster and less wasteful to die cut white cardstock and ink the archs, instead of running colored paper through the Big Shot six times.

Para la nieve usé una plantilla de La Pareja Creativa y un boli de gel blanco. El sello es de diseño propio (tengo una amiga que trabajaba en una copistería fabricando sellos de caucho) estampado con Hero Arts Unicorn white pigment ink.

For the snow I used a stencil by La Pareja Creativa and a white gel pen. The stamp is my own design (I have a friend who used to work in a copy shop making rubber stam0ps). I stamped the text "When the weather is bad, put on a brave face" with Hero Arts Unicorn White pigment ink.

Las nubes son de un set de Die-namics y usé la técnica de incrustado (AQUÍ tenéis un enlace a un tutorial que hice sobre la misma) tanto para el arco iris como para las nubes...
The clouds are from a Die-namics set and I used the inlay technique for both them and the rainbow...

Me encanta la cartulina kraft, a parte de ser resistente y ecológica combina con todos los colores...

I love kraft-colored cardstock since it's resistant and easy to combine with any color...

Me llegó el troquel de hierba de Die-namics ayer y me gustó el toque que le da a la tarjeta... ¿qué os parece?

I received the grass border Die-namics die yesterday and I think it adds a nice touch to the card. What do you think?
